The Yorkshire terrier is a lively, intelligent and affectionate dog. The Yorkie originated in England in the 1800’s and was first used as a dog for hunting rats. Now the Yorkie is an ideal apartment dog, able to be paper trained, or ride around in a backpack or handbag. These dogs make great pets for older people, and for children who respect them.
    Yorkies tend to reach heights of 7-9 inches, and weight 5-8 pounds. They need to be brushed everyday to keep their coats, (blue/tan) silky and to keep them from matting.
